Hey guys, welcome to the first official episode of When Diplomacy Fails. Since it's my first, I decided to celebrate by talking about my favourite period in history: The Franco-Prussian War! It's got a fantastic amount of diplomacy inside, you'll get to hear about Bismarck owning Napoleon's nephew and about where it all went wrong for France. What's not to love? Well, my pronounciation for one. Sorry about that, I hope I didn't offend any German-sensitive ears with my ignorance... Please give it a listen and let me know what you think!

While I enjoyed your podcast regarding the Franco-Prussian War there was one glaring error that you made towards the end. Wilhelm II did not directly succeed Wilhelm I. Wilhelm II was the grandson of Wilhelm I. Frederick III reigned briefly between the two Wilhelms (he was the son-in-law of Queen Victoria of England). I suppose in relation to your subject, it was not a significant error.

One word, excellent! I have only just found your podcasts and have now loaded all of them onto my ipod. Thank you for providing such an informative narrative on a period of history that is forgotten but as you rightly emphasise is critical to the future development, if that's the right word, of Europe. Great stuff, keep them coming. Ian Morris, Lincoln, UK

Hi! I just came aboard. I'm a listener of both David Crowther and Ray Harris Jr.'s podcasts, so I thought I'd give you a try. Sounds pretty interesting so far. I've not known much about the Franco-Prussian war up until now, so thanks for shedding some light there. I like your brogue, but then I've long been a fan of all things Irish. I've got some Irish ancestry. Anyway, I'm looking forward to listening to some of your other episodes. Cheers! ~Rob Shinnick, St. Simons Island, Georgia, USA
