This week we look at the 'Forgotten War', that of the less well known but fascinating conflict between America and Britain in 1812. The name of the war isn't exactly inspired, but don't be put off! There's plenty here for everyone, so have a listen now, and let me know what you thought!

  • Normally in Canada we get a different look at the War of 1812. Totally agree the winner of the war was Canada (it still existed) and big loser were the Aboriginal peoples of North America who lost cohesion of their cause with the death of Tecumseh at the Battle of the Thames (pronounced "Tems" as per Sean). Thought you might've started the podcast with the quote that the invasion of Canada was "A mere matter of marching" --T Jefferson. Pierre Berton's book "The Invasion of Canada" best outlines the Cdn side as it explored Sir Isaac Brock's herculean efforts to save Upper Canada (Ontario)from US invasion with 3 fronts and only 1,200 regulars and 4,000 militia against 2 American armies. He died at Queenston Heights but saved Canada. Of him Tecumseh said "Now here is a man!" BTW Iroquois is pronounced "ir-a-kwa" not i-ra-kwoi. Regardless, enjoyed both parts and I will keep listening and downloading. Happy to help with any French or German pronunciations you need.
